Scooting past self-imposed constraints.
I don’t think I’m a perfectionist, but I’m definitely an overthinker.
Roughly every five years for the past 30 years, new ideas have shown up for me that improve my world view. They tend to build and crystallize: they complexify, then simplify, over and over. You may be having a similar experience.
Along the way, I developed some beliefs and principles that have frankly slowed down my sharing of these ideas. They include things like:
- Start at a beginning and narrate the story (stories) in sequence.
- Only post about a particular insight once. Don’t be repetitive.
- Cross-post abundantly, so the ideas can find their audiences.
- Mirror and contextualize the insights in my external Brain.
If you put “I should” before each of these bullets, you’ll get the idea.
I’ve decided to free myself from these constraints, or at least to take them way less seriously. Watch the video to see what I mean.
